Getting Started with Long Term Car Rental – A Step by Step Guide

Welcome to Long Term Car Rental!

You have already taken the first exciting step by starting to investigate the future of flexible motoring – car subscription and long term car rental!

The most notable benefit of a car subscription or long term car rental, in oppose to purchasing a car outright or doing a secure loan, chattel mortgage, hire purchase or car lease, is that you get all the benefits of ownership without the fixed term commitment.

Car subscriptions and long term car rentals allow you to budget for a set weekly payment without the added financial burden of on-road costs, servicing and maintenance costs. Furthermore, you can upgrade and downgrade as required and pause your subscription at any time without the hassle of buying, selling, trading, or refinancing.

Given that car subscription is a relatively new alternative to traditional car ownership, a lot of clients trying it for the first time do not understand exactly how it works or how to get the most out of it. To assist with this, we have put together a comprehensive guide to help you get started…

Step 1 – Determine your Eligibility

Eligibility requirements for a car subscription or long term car rental are much less stringent than that of a secure loan, chattel mortgage, hire purchase or traditional car lease.

We accept temporary visas, centrelink income, casual, short term and contract employment as well as rideshare or food delivery income. If you are looking at a car subscription with instalment billing, we will require a copy of your most recent bank statement to verify your payment capacity.

To book your long term car rental or car subscription, we also require your driver’s licence (front and back) and a proof of current address if it is not on your licence. We accept drivers over the age of 21 and under the age of 85 and can get insurance approval outside of guide on a case by case basis if you are not within that age range. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate learner drivers for a car subscription or long term car rental under any circumstances.

Step 2 – Assess your Needs and Preferences

We have a huge range of new and late model vehicles available for short term car rental, long term car rental and car subscriptions, including MG, ToyotaMazda, Kia, Subaru, Isuzu, Mitsubishi, LDV, Volkswagen rentals in hatchbacks, sedans, utes, dual cabs, 7 seaters, vanshybrid car rentals and hybrid suv rentals.

Before looking into pricing, it is best to view our range to determine what type of car you like and also what type of car you need – Our Cars | Long Term Car Rental.

When selecting the perfect car for yourself and/or your family we recommend considering the following:

  1. How much space do you need?
How many passengers will be travelling regularly and how much cargo room is required for this car to be a practical choice? – Consider number of seats, leg room, child seats, wheelchair/s, tools, luggage and any other equipment or cargo as required.
  2. How much will you be driving on average for the duration of your long term car rental or car subscription?
Consider the distances of your regular travel to determine your average KMs as this will affect your budgeting. Allow for your everyday commute as well as any longer trips you may have planned.
  3. Where do you drive regularly? Do you need a 4wd for the terrain or maybe a hybrid to save on petrol for longer distances?
  4. Do you or your passengers have any injuries or discomfort?
For clients with recurring back pain, physical disability or elderly passengers it is generally best to look at a vehicle that is not too low to the ground for ease of entry and exit.
  5. Which car do you like the look of?
Aside from choosing a vehicle that provides the right function and practicality, we also want you to love the car you go with!

Step 3 – Consider Your Budget

When determining your budget for a long term car rental or car subscription, it is important to remember that all on-road costs, insurance, 24/7 roadside assist, servicing and maintenance is included in the cost. This allows you to work out what you’re comfortable spending without having to put some aside for unexpected running costs or repair costs in the unlikely event of a breakdown.

The only other expense you need to consider is fuel and toll charges if applicable. You can also opt to add full insurance with $0 excess to your long term car rental or car subscription to ensure you are not out of pocket, even in the event of an at-fault accident.

Step 4 – Select Your Ride!

After considering your needs, preferences, KM usage and budget, you are ready for the fun part of selecting your new car!

You can do this online, or if you prefer a bit more guidance, contact one of our friendly team members to point you in the right direction on (07) 3205 1515 or longtermcarrental.com.au.

We will do a full inspection of the vehicle with you to note down any existing marks or damage. We recommend taking your own photos also to ensure nothing is missed on the pre-delivery inspection.

However, driving is a very personal experience and if you are not enjoying the car or feel that some options within your rental need to be adjusted – we are here to help!

Your needs, budget and preferences may change over the term of your car rental or car subscription and we always want to ensure you have the right package to suit your lifestyle. This is what sets car subscription and long term car rental apart from other avenues of traditional car ownership, so we always encourage our clients to take advantage of this major benefit!
